After School
Martial Arts Programs
Open to all Children in Kindergarten
through the 6th Grade
The James O'Connor Martial Arts and Fitness
After School Program is designed to teach
your child martial arts while providing valuable after school care in a safe and
fun environment. James O'Connor Martial Arts and Fitness is a Martial Arts
School, not a daycare facility. Our after school program focuses on teaching
your child martial arts. We will provide quiet time for homework and other
quiet activities, snack time, and organized game time in addition to taking your
child through our Martial Arts Program.
Our after school martial arts program teaches your child:
|
|
To show courtesy and respect |
|
|
How to be a positive role model |
|
|
To exhibit perseverance and pride |
|
|
To set and achieve goals |
|
|
To achieve self mastery |
Ina addition to these important skills your
child will get a healthy snack, get lots of exercise, build social
relationships, and learn self-defense -- a valuable skill to master in today's
society.
Your child will receive 30 minutes of martial arts instruction four days a week.
This time will be dedicated to teaching your child the same skills we teach in
our regular evening Martial Arts Program. Your child will participate in a belt
test every 8 weeks with the rest of our students. Our belt tests are on Saturday
afternoons so the whole family can see the new skills your child has learned and
cheer them on to their next belt rank. Click on this
belt system link for
more information about our belt ranking system.
The after school program hours of operation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday and will follow the Duneland School's calendar. We will be
off on all regular one day holidays scheduled for Duneland in addition to Fall
Recess, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Recess, Winter Holiday/President's Holiday,
and Spring Recess. We will provide after school care on half days at no
additional charge. You must send a sack lunch for your child on all half days.
For more information on the Duneland School Calendar please visit their website
at www.duneland.K12.in.us . In the
event of a school cancellation the after school program will be cancelled as
well.
All parents are responsible for transportation of their child to and from the
after school program. Bus Service can be provided to James O'Connor Martial Arts
and Fitness by Duneland Schools but it is up to each parent to coordinate this
with their child's school.

Uniform and Belt in Martial Arts are an integral part of our program. The
uniform represents our "Team" and shows respect to the do-jang in which your
child belongs. Your child's belt is the symbol of rank achieved by hard
work and should always be worn with the uniform.
James O'Connor Martial Arts and Fitness is offering a very organized after
school program for your child. It is an all-inclusive program that will take
your child through our Martial Arts program while offering a safe and fun
environment for your child after school. Our program will be taught by one of
our own adult black belts with experience in instructing children ages 3 and up.
Additional care will be provided for your child by hand-picked and very
responsible older ranking students at our school.
